“Being In The Right Place, At The Right Time”

Ruth 2:1-20

Sometimes we can be experiencing so much turmoil in our life, until we start to believe nothing will ever go right for us ever again.  Ruth & Naomi had gone thru tremendous loss, pain and suffering.  They had a lot of problems…the death of their husbands, little to no money and no covering, which was necessary for women in those days. Where they were was filled with loss, pain and frustration.

As with most, who are in situations like this, it’s common to feel the need to move away…better yet, RUN! away from the city/place of our troubles.  We believe that if we can just get away to a new place, things will get better.  Scripture says Naomi and Ruth went back to Bethlehem, at the beginning of barley harvest.  Bethlehem was the “right place”.  Barley harvest was the “right time.”

It’s important to realize that just because we’re in the right place at the right time, it won’t be easy, as we will still be required to do what we can to better our situation.  A lot of people think that just because they’re in the right place at the right time, that they don’t have to do anything, except show up there.  This is far from the truth!  We must make an effort to do all we can to assist in our own deliverance.  Our effort and hard work, in spite of our pain, is what’s going to gain us some special attention and favor.

Ruth decided to go to the field to glean (work) grain and gain favor.  She was a woman with a plan and on a mission.  After working in the field, Ruth just so happen to come to the part of the field that belonged to Boaz, who was a wealthy man.  While Ruth was working, Boaz noticed her and asked the reapers who was she.  This is a hint to us that, if we work hard, someone with wealth, authority and influence is going to notice us (help, protect & give to us) even though we’re a foreigner (stranger, feel we don’t belong & feel unworthy).

What’s noteworthy about this passage of Scripture is, just when we think we’re not worthy, the most unlikely to succeed or the most unlikely to be noticed, God will allow others to see our worth, have compassion, respect and favor towards us.  Not only that, they will speak a Word from God into our lives.  Because Ruth was in the right place at the right time, that one encounter caused her to enter into her blessed, wealthy place.

Here are the blessings/benefits of being in the right place at the right time:

  • We gain the attention of those with influence and authority

  • We obtain favor

  • We receive protection from harm

  • We receive provision/assistance from others

  • We realize our self worth

  • We receive a promise from God

  • We are comforted

  • We are repaid & fully rewarded

  • We experience a new beginning (fresh start, wealthy husband/place, brought out of our slavery, fruitfulness/child, rights & ownership, in the bloodline of Jesus)

Although Naomi and Ruth had gone through tremendous pain and turmoil, they did not allow it to permanently paralyze them to the wrong place.  In fact, their pain is what prompted them to move elsewhere.  Many times our painful circumstances manifest to move us toward the next phase of our lives and ultimately our wealthy place.  I challenge you to not be held hostage to the wrong place.  No matter how bad your current situation is, keep going.  Keep trying.  Keep believing.  Keep working.  Besides, the only way to get to the right place at the right time, is to keep moving forward.
