What are you thinking about? I would venture to say that most of society today is not thinking about much. We’ve become mesmerized and under the influence of “thoughtless activity.” Have you noticed that most of the technological advancements are gadgets that are designed to think for us? I’ve found that Smart Phones aren’t making us smarter. They’re aiding us in “thinking less,” as we are no longer using our brains to memorize telephone numbers or how to spell words in our text messages. I’ve even noticed that in our school system, most of what’s required of students today has been made easier for them, than it was in my school days. And many of these students still complain that school is too hard, not realizing they have it easy. In fact, there’s a large number of people who flat out hate having to think and become angry if you put them in a situation that requires it. It stresses them out. They want you to tell them the answer.
Many of our school buildings, education systems, roads, airports, churches are outdated and dilapidated. Most of our music and movies are duplicates of previous versions. Many of the books we read and sermons preached to us are re-mixes, cut and paste versions of what someone else has already said. One can’t help but ask, “Is anybody able to think of something original/fresh? Where are all the new, great inventors, creators, writers, speakers and teachers, etc.?
Unfortunately, there’s only a small number of individuals/thinkers who have something fresh and new to present. These few individuals are people who have tuned in to the voice of God and honed their giftings. These are individuals who know how to think for themselves and not accept the outdated status quo. These are individuals who are using one of the greatest abilities God has given to us…. Using our own brains…Thinking…Higher Thinking!
One of the saddest things you’ll ever witness is seeing someone who has the ability to think for themselves, allow someone else to think poorly on their behalf and they know it, but choose to go along with it. Never allow someone else to control your thinking. If you don’t think for yourself and act upon those thoughts, you’ll never be all that God purposed for you to be.
If we fail to be “Thinkers,” we will continue to see duplicate renditions of movies, books, sermons, ideas, concepts, etc. We’ll always be a follower, following someone who’s leading us where God didn’t intend for us to go, doing what God didn’t intend for us to do. God can’t use those who can’t think for themselves, but He mightily uses and blesses those who have the courage to be “Thinkers” who are led by His Spirit!
It appears that we have become a people distracted by thoughtless props that are slowing training us to not think. As the saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.” Let’s turn off the television, radio, telephones, etc. and exercise our thinking abilities. Let us seek God and hear what new thing He would have us to contribute to society in our lifetime.
